Ontario producers are less than one day’s drive away from the majority of markets they serve. Shoppers can get fresh greenhouse tomatoes, seedless cucumbers, and peppers in as little as 24 hours after being hand-picked from the vine.

Making the best better: a number of packers have installed computerized systems that sort tomatoes by color, weight, size and diameter. This ensures consistent size, color, and quality in all the packs going to wholesalers and retailers.   

The Leamington, Ontario area has the largest concentration of the province’s greenhouse producers. The remainder are in the Niagara peninsula and the Haldimand-Norfolk region. The Ontario greenhouse vegetable industry is the largest in North America.
